Civil Technology (CT-64)

What Subjects are taught?

7 Branches of Civil Engineering are Briefly Discussed:

1. Geotechnical Engineering: It is used in almost all civil engineering disciplines because most of the structures are located above ground. This branch deals with the effect of structures on soil or rock and their properties. The branch of civil engineering deals with underground seepage, seismic effects, stability etc. Partial design of dams, retaining walls, foundations etc. is done through this branch.

2. Structural Engineering: Proper design of cement, sand, re-inforcement, wood, other materials to protect houses, hotels, parks, bridges, buildings etc. from the effects of wind, water, earthquakes, temperature etc. along with resistance to external loads.

3. Transportation Engineering: The characteristics of a society or breast on its communication system. The development of any society is greatly influenced by this communication system. Transportation engineering deals with the research, design, problems, and solutions of transportation systems for people, goods, etc. This branch deals with more transportation facilities on shorter roads, reduction of accidents, cost reduction etc.

4. Water Resource Engineering: As we all know that water is very important in our life, it is also very common. Again this water brings us death. We know that too. Water  resources engineering deals with the physical properties of water. Discusses and designs on flood, city factories, irrigation water supply, prevention of river erosion, river management etc. This branch deals with hydraulic power, dams, canals, flood etc.

5. Environmental Engineering: The work of this branch is to prevent pollution of the environment i.e. air and water, purification etc. Today it is an important branch. Supply of clean water, removal and purification of waste, farces etc. are discussed in this branch.

6. Construction Engineering: This branch deals with how to construct a structure. Use  of money, shortening of time, supply of necessary materials, equipment, etc. science of structure construction methods are worked in the branch.

7. Urban and Community Planning: Urbanization and city planning. Basically working with a group. What a group or alliance might look like and how to put it together is researched in this discipline

What are the job opportunities?

As a profession in Bangladesh, civil engineers have a wide range of jobs. Civil engineers can carve out a successful career for themselves in both public and private organizations. Government institutions include Public Health Engineering, Water Development Board, Public Works Department, Roads and Highways Department, Education Engineering Department, LGED, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, Bangladesh Railways, City Corporation etc. Apart from this, there are golden opportunities to build a career in teaching in universities, military engineering services in army, navy or air force, power sector (power generation sector, Petro bangla) etc. If desired, civil engineers can also develop their career through their own consultancy firm. Apart from this, civil engineers are in great demand in the real estate sector of Bangladesh within the private sector.

How are the higher education facilities?

With research and development being an important driver of economic growth, the demand for higher education in engineering abroad is increasing day by day Civil engineering students can avail this opportunity; There is no alternative to higher education, especially for enhancing professional or research skills. Studying civil engineering abroad is very expensive. But there is hope; almost all universities in the world have various scholarship programs to attract talented people to higher education. These scholarships cover course fees as well as monthly stipends for personal expenses, which help students focus on their studies while reducing the financial burden of studying at university.
